New CNN Texas Poll C - 50, O - 48

Not sure if this is a good poll or not, but it shows a close race.

until they drop internals, you cannot tell if it is good or not

Geez (none / 0)

They pushed their leaners, didn't they!

by mcdave on Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 04:27:09 PM EST

what does that mean? (none / 0)

to "push their leaners?" Thanks. I'm new to the art of interpreting polls.

Re: what does that mean? (2.00 / 1)

It means you don't let someone say "undecided" or you push them to say, if they had to vote.  You look for that in polls with low undecideds like this one.

Re: what does that mean? (none / 0)

Usually, when you ask people who they plan to vote for, a lot of them say they're not sure. Then you ask if there's anyone they lean towards. Often a candidate's total includes the more committed folks plus the "leaners". Given that the two candidate have 98% support between them two weeks before the election, it's clear they pushed the leaners to disclose their choice.

Re: New CNN Texas Poll C - 50, O - 48 (2.00 / 1)

Maybe that's why Ickes moved the firewall to Puerto Rico and then Penn moved it to the lounge of the Denver Hyatt Regency?

CNN/Opinion Dynamics fares poorly (none / 0)

CNN/Opinion Dynamics come in at #26 of 39 in Median Error and #28 or 39 in Average Error in the SurveyUSA Polling Report Card:

Not exactly a good record in such matters.

I take all polls with a grain of salt.

I also take SurveyUSA's ranking of pollsters with a grain of salt, especially since they rank themselves #1.

well, they earned their chops on Super Tuesday.  Until they really screw up a poll not named New Hampshire, I'll trust them.

Re: New CNN Texas Poll C - 50, O - 48 (none / 0)

So. Puerto Rico is the firewall. Didn't you get the memo?

The problem of course is that if it's a tie then Obama will get more delegates. Even if it's not a tie and she wins by a few points he'll get more delegates. Doesn't really help her at all. They shouldn't have said that Tejas is a firewall.

Re: New CNN Texas Poll C - 50, O - 48 (none / 0)

That was the Ickes memo.

The Penn memo which came later moved it to the lounge at the Denver Hyatt Regency.

This can't be right. (none / 0)

Clinton's well-oiled machine was ready on Day One of this campaign, not unlike her presidency will be.

Well, okay, not quite:

Supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton are worried that convoluted delegate rules in Texas could water down the impact of strong support for her among Hispanic voters there, creating a new obstacle for her in the must-win presidential primary contest.

Several top Clinton strategists and fundraisers became alarmed after learning of the state's unusual provisions during a closed-door strategy meeting this month, according to one person who attended.

Hmm, this isn't good for Clinton.  This is a must-win state for Hillary.

Re: New CNN Texas Poll C - 50, O - 48 (none / 0)

Obama ALWAYS improves once he hits ground and does some rallies. If this poll is correct I suspect he'll win Texas.

by Cheebs on Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 04:55:37 PM EST

If this is true... (none / 0)

...and Obama comes through in WI and HI tomorrow, Hillary is in deep trouble. It's unlikely that she'll pick up support against Obama in TX at his point, unless he flubs the debates. She needs to run it up in Ohio at this point or the race is over.

But think of the burns. And when you were done, Hillary would claim to have done all the work herself.

Re: New CNN Texas Poll C - 50, O - 48 (none / 0)

Come, it's not so bad. Remember, one-third of the delegates are chosen by caucus, which favors -- oh, dear. Well, at least Latinos aren't underrepresented in the delegate count. What do you mean, they are? What kind of a crummy firewall is this?
